FOURFLEX proposes a new multi-owner / multi-family housing typology for Los Angeles. Transforming the typical single-family lot, FOURFLEX proposes four units on two levels, topped with a habitable green roof and a photovoltaic canopy. Each of the four, 1,000 sf flexible residences is outfitted with a core and shell, including a fully-finished, all-electric kitchen, laundry room and bathroom. A wide-span, mass timber structure makes a completely open floor plan possible. Interior walls can be added at the discretion of the owner depending on their needs -allowing for the possibility of multiple room configurations over time.
The rooftop is an often overlooked asset, especially where safe, green, outdoor space is scarce. Given that most of the built fabric of Los Angeles is one- or two-stories in height, getting up above that datum affords incredible light and views of the skyline and horizon beyond.
